Every 2 years, countries from around the world get together to compete at the Elite Barefoot World Championships. 2004 is starting off with just such an event. The location will be on the Murray River approximately 240km North/East of Melbourne, Australia. The event is scheduled to take place Feb 4 – 8, 2004. The Australian’s will undoubtedly plan an event that will be very well organized, promoted, and attended by thousands of spectators. It will be an event well worth attending if you can afford the plane fair to Australia and 16 hour flight.

Though this event is promoted as a team event pitting country against country, nearly every top skier sees this event as the single most important competition that could establish them as the World Overall Barefoot Champion for the next two years. Yes, it is an honor to represent your country, but, to the top skiers, that takes back seat to the mission of winning a Worlds Title. They figure, if they win their individual events, the team will take care of itself.
