2 was packed with plenty of action. Men's Open and Open Pro wakes
was run behind the Malibu this year. Many of the Open skiers were
upset about that since they had been training behind the Sanger all
year, but they all made the best of it. Lane Bowers decided to
drop out of the tournament after failing to make the finals in Tricks on
day one, so that left the door open for Al Morrison to make it in after
skiing a personal best of 17 in round one. But the focus was on
Keith St. Onge and Ron Scarpa. They were both skiing well and
finished 1st and 2nd. Keith had a 19.4 to Ron's 18.4. So for
a second day in a row, Ron finished 2nd to Keith St. Onge, but only the
slightest margin. Ron is proving that he can still stand
toe-to-toe with the best in the world.
Men's 2 and 3 are seeing some tough battles. Tom Walsh Ron Sherwood, Chris Wakefield and Stuart Parsons are battling it out for the Mens 2 Overall title, while Phil Gustafson, Ken Kaestner, and Jimmy Spell are vying for the Mens 3 title. Rachel George is cruising to another gold
medal sweep. Malorie Bacon and Andrea Eggert are doing their best
to put pressure on Rachel, but Rachel is just too smooth and
consistent. The US is looking for the next woman phenomenon, and
it could quite possibly be Elaine Heller. Rumors are circulating
about how fast she is learning the 3-event side of barefooting.
It's been a while since Rachel has had anyone to really push her.
The good news is that there are several young up and comers that have
the potential to rattle Rachel's cage a bit in the coming years. |
