Though two
years have passed, many things still remain the same.
Keith is still shooting for his 1st World Title. Ron
Scarpa will not be skiing the 2006 Worlds, and many of the
faces on the US Team are the same. But then again, a
lot has changed. The World Barefoot Council decided to
combine the Elite and Jr/Sr. Worlds into one event. So
this will be the first time all Worlds competitors will be
competing at the same sight. It will be interesting to
watch this Worlds and how the competitors deal with the
longer tournament schedule and combined team pressures.
Keith St.
Onge has been named Captain the the US Elite team, and
rightfully so. He has been on a mission with a focus
on the World Championships. He has broken both the
Tricks and Slalom World Records this year. He set a
new slalom record of 20.6 by breaking the 12 year old record
held by Brian Fuchs. And he did it twice in 2006 to to
make sure of it. Keith also has a pending Tricks
record of 10,300 that he also set in 2006. The US Team
is counting on Rachel to lead them to another Women's title.
And with Gizie Halez not skiing this Worlds for Australia,
Rachel should cruise to an easy victory as long as she
stands her runs up and jumps well.
The US
Junior team consists of two brother, two sisters, and the
youngest Morrison, Chris. Chris is the only inverted
jumper, Billy is tricking in the 8000s and Elaine Heller is
the US' hopeful to take over the women's top spot in years
to come. Willie Farrell, who was sidelined from
competing in this year's worlds due to an elbow injury, will
be coaching the Juniors.
The
Seniors are being led once again by Mike Salber and Andrea
Eggert. The US Senior Team has added Betsy Colemant to
the team to replace Sheri Morse. Mike Salber claims
that this will be his last Senior Worlds.
