We have a new King of the Barefoot World.

After watching David Small take home the World Overall title at the last two Barefoot World Championships, Keith St. Onge set out to make 2006 his year.  Preparation for the 2006 Worlds began in December 2005.  Keith sat down to review his training schedule, ski school schedule, travelling clinics, sponsor commitments, personal commitments, and even his diet and workout routines.  The result was a decision to cut back on students at his school, forego many travelling clinics and use that time to practice.  It was a hard decision to make because one less student meant less money in his pocket to pay the rent.  With that in mind, he made sure every minute he could get on the water would be used to refine his tricks, wakes and jump.

The result of all his training and focus was a new world slalom record of 20.6 and several world trick records of 10,000 plus points.  Keith revamped his entire trick run in early 2006 and was skiing with a determination and focus never seen before.  Every time Keith took to the water, there was a feeling that he could set yet another world record.  He was in shape and skiing better than he ever had.

Keith won his Regionals with ease and cruised to a seemingly easy win at the US Nationals.  Keith enjoyed the wins, but in his mind, the only title that had eluded him was the World Overall Barefoot title, and unless he won that, his barefoot portfolio would not yet be complete.

The result of his hard work showed itself at the 2006 World Barefoot Championships in Adna, Washington.  His competitiveness and skiing was amazing.  Despite having an injured back from so many jumps, Keith was still able to set a new pending world trick record of 10,500 pts, slalom a 20.5 to nearly tie his currently world record of 20.6, and jump far enough to keep the pressure to perform on David Small.  It is our great pleasure to now call Keith the World Overall Barefoot Champion.  To see Keith's World Record trick run, Click Here for Video.

Our greatest pleasure was watching Keith accomplish his goals while still remaining a very friendly and approachable skier.  Keith is a great ambassador to the sport and great role model for all the other top pros to emulate.
