Kevin Towers &
Bill Brzoza

from Pennsylvania & Rhode Island
have been selected as the
December 2007
Co-Footers of the Month

December's Footer of the Month is always a difficult one for me.  It's the end of the year and whoever is nominated only gets about 20 days of visibility before we start the voting for Footer of the Year.  But the good news for them is they are the last Footer of the Month on everyone's minds.  So they need to be someone that represents BFC and the sport well.  Someone who embodies the essence of the sport, the energy, the commitment, the camaraderie, the cool personality, and just flat out has a good time on the water no matter where they're at.

Whenever I sit back and think about the skiers that embody what the sport is or should be all about, there are two names that always make the list.  Those names are Bill Brzoza and Kevin Towers.  These guys are best friends and have skied with each other for years.  When they're together, they're like two kids out to have fun with a new toy they just got. Mischief goes hand and hand with these two characters of the sport.  And I can never think of one without thinking of the other.  That's why I've nominated them both as Co-footers of the Month.

A few weeks ago, I organized a video shoot in Florida for Keith, Andre, Chris, and Mike Salber.  Mike was unable to make it due to his work schedule, so I called Kevin Towers.  I gave him a weeks notice and very little information as to what was going to take place.  I basically just invited him down, gave him a date and time to be there, and said if you want to be a part of it, don't be late.  I asked him to relay the same invite to Bill.  Kevin told me he'd be there even if he had to take a bus, and he'd make sure Bill was there as well.

The day before our video shoot, we all went out for a ski just to knock the cobwebs off the feet and get the team into what I call a rhythm for the shoot the next day.  I like to see how everyone is skiing so I have an idea of who I'm going to pair together when the cameras are rolling.  Bill and Kevin hadn't skied in over a month and they were eager to get in the water.

As Keith and I sat in the boat watching these two best friends ski, I just kept thinking to myself, "this is why I love to barefoot so much".  Just being out on the boat with a great group of guys, figuring things out, helping each other, challenging each other, cracking jokes, looking out for each other, and just having a great time barefooting.  The days you just wish would never end.  The days you talk about 5-10 years later.  This was one of those days.

Fortunately, we had the video camera rolling during Kevin & Bill's set because they were attempting to do a trick that, to our knowledge, has never been done before.  The video is below.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Below are some screen captures from the video

I'd like to personally thank both Kevin and Bill for investing their time and money in getting to our video shoot.  I hope it was as fun for you guys as it was for us.  We plan to release the video of that shoot sometime in late February to early March to coincide with an article Waterski Magazine is doing on it.  And if you both send me a good Christmas gift, I'll make sure your ugly mugs are in the video.  LOL!!

Happy Holidays Guys!!  Congratulations for being nominated BFC Footers of the Month.

PS:  For those of you that don't know Kevin Towers, he's one of the Top 3-Event footers and skis in the Eastern Region with Bill Brzoza.  His skills have steadily improved over the last few years and he recently won the Open Mens Division Overall at the 2007 US Nationals.  He was just named by the ABC (3-Event's governing body) as the 2007 Male Athlete of the Year.

Kevin:  Keep up the good work, and get busy.  You have some politicking to do.  Becoming BFC's Co-Footers of the Year is no easy task.  Good luck!!
