Subject: South African Winter training camp

Preparations for the South African team to the upcoming worlds has started in all earnest and our team has moved North of the country to where the climate is about 5-10 degrees warmer .

All got together at my house on Friday guys from Natal , Freestate and Gauteng so the 4 hour trip started in good spirit and we left Pretoria at 6 o'clock the evening .We had loaded everything from a stove to microwave and fridge . After stopping on the way for supper this restaurant will never be the same again as these guys ate as if it was going to be there last meal for 3 weeks .

We finally arrived in Tzaneen at 11 o clock and started setting up camp by 1 in the morning all was done and I had to get these guys in bed as the 1st skier was on the water at 8 that morning and the wakeup call would be at 7 . So it was a lot of tired faces that got out of bed the 1st 2 skiers on the water was Garth and Heinrich and we started with tricks by 10 the next skiers were on and so we kept going till lunch at one the guys had a 2 hour break and we were back out on the water till six .

Supper was started and it was my responsibility so I decided to do the stew thing with potatoes rice and lots of meat , but that would turnout to be another story when it was time for the rice there was no rice so Jonathan had to rush into town and find a place that had rice 1 hour later rice was added to the pot by the time we ate the pot started burning the rice was not done , but at 9 in the evening and you are tired you eat anything just to get to bed . I was expelled from cooking duties after this .

Next morning we were back out at 8 and put in a 3 hour jump set with the guys all doing well and Heinrich nailing some bombs the kids getting bigger so he is flying further .This was followed with some tricks and by two a well deserved lunch break was  taken the guys had the afternoon of and we went to a local saw mill to pickup some camp fire wood .Sadly I had to packup and leave for home as I have work commitments and Jonathan would be looking after the gang till I can get up there on the weekend .

I will keep you updated on a weekly basis on how the guys are doing

Regards
Eugene

Subject: training for the worlds

Another week has passed of some of the most intense training that I have witnessed in a long time total focus and dedication . The guys started out early in the mornings with Jonathan took the 1st group and then spend almost 8 hours on the boat training and helping the kids. This just makes it so easy for me when I get there on weekends just to work on problems that might happen in the week .

I arrived their on Saturday and could see these kids were ready to take me on . We went out and I was amazed at how fit and clean the skiing was it was pleasure looking at these kids ski and I had just a little fine tuning do and worked hard on the new kids on the team that has just started inverting and is in the process of going long line so we are up against time with these guys , but a lot of adults can learn from these kids in there positive attitude and the will to want to succeed.

But besides the tough skiing there was also a lot of fun had by all from protecting the camp of troops of monkeys raiding the camp to having concerts in the evening around the camp fire pulling pranks on each other.

So all in all the guys are having a lot of fun .

Speak to you soon
Eugene
