April 2003 Footer of the Month

Here's why:

Dear Barefoot Central:

I would like to nominate Mike Hartman for Footer of the Month.

Mike is far more than just another footer.  He has a knack for discipline, time, and perfection.  Mike is also the South Central Region's Reserve Director, and has helped out, or helped run several tournaments.  Mike is always there to lend a hand at judging, driving, setting up , and taking down equipment needed to run a tournament. Often, Mike will bring a travel trailer to tournament so that the judges and staff can get out of the hot Texas sun during their breaks.  

Along with all of that, Mike just loves to barefoot.  He and I will go ski on days so cold that the fishermen wouldn't even go out.  Mike barefoots with the Austin Barefoot Club even though he lives 2 hours south of Austin, Texas.  Mike skis with them at least twice each week!!  I have never heard of someone who will drive over 8 hours each weekend to go barefooting.  Weather pending Mike almost never misses a weekend, accept if he is going to visit with one of his almost 5 grandchildren (one's on the way) or the occasional dog show.

Mike is a great guy, he is always there to give you tips, and laugh at me when I forget that no matter what I think, I am not Ron Scarpa.  Mike has never said no to anyone when it comes to needing a partner to ski with.  But having said all that, the number one reason that I'm nominating Mike is he is a good friend, not just to me, but to anyone that he comes in contact with.  He's a great representative for the sport.
