If
you're a single guy in the sport of barefoot waterskiing, I'm sure
you've already noticed that the odds of meeting a woman that's as
interested in the sport as you are is quite the long shot. My
friends always tell me how lucky I am to have found my wife
Michele. She's not only an awesome cook, but she can hang with the
best of the guys out on the water. Most importantly, she's been
able to put up with me for over 11 years now. We've been by each other's
side through thousands of hours of training, too many crashes to count,
arguments, reconciliation's, new friends entering the sport, old friends
who've dropped out, many wins and many losses. She's seen it all.
Most of our footing friends consist of
single guys or husbands with wives that have very little interest in the
sport. Most wives and girlfriends refuse to even go on the boat when
their spouses are footing. Most prefer to support their husbands
from afar because they can't stand the testosterone filled boat and
competitiveness and childish behavior their husbands display on the
boat. I tell my friends all the time; if you want to test your
relationship, have your girlfriend drive the boat for you; if she
survives that, you have a chance. The next stage is try to teach
her to barefoot, assuming she's willing; get past that without killing
each other, and you'll have a long marriage.
I can only think of a few married couples
that I know that foot and train together on a regular basis:
Heather and Kevin Towers
Kyle and Debbie Fahrenthold
Willy and Dawn Farrell
Ron and Elisa Scarpa
The wives that foot with their husbands
get to see a side of the sport, and their husbands, that very few wives
get to see. They get to see first hand all the self doubt, hard
work, pain, and the exhilaration of accomplishing something in the sport
they love that they never thought they could. They get to be a
part of the bond that barefooters have with each other; all the clowning
around on the boat, and the inside scoop on why their spouses are so
addicted to such a crazy sport. It's a bond that brings you closer
together as husband and wife.
Bart
Williams is another very lucky man. He found a soul mate in Jackie
Crofton. This couple takes obsession with barefooting to a whole
new level. They are so into footing they started a Barefoot and
Waterski School together called Footing
Fever, they organize barefoot tournaments in their
country of South Australia and they recently planned their entire
wedding around the theme of Barefoot Waterksiing. From the cake,
to the tux and dress, it was all about the sport that brought them
together.
Bart had Gavin Williams, of Williams
Wetsuits, design custome barefoot suits for Jackie and himself.
After the wedding, Bart carried Jackie over the threshold barefoot
style.
Congratulations Bart and
Jack!
We wish you both many years of wedded barefoot bliss!
