NOLAN LOUGH, of Groves, Texas, was selected as the December 2001 Footer of the Month. Here's why: Nolan is currently 8 years old. He began kneeboarding with his dad, Chad Lough, at the early age of 18 months. Then at age 4 he tried water skiing. He quickly decided that skiing on two sticks wasn't his cup of tea, so he tried wakeboarding. He found that he wasn't completely excited about wakeboarding either, so at age 5, he tried barefooting. The more time he spent on the boom, the more barefooting seemed so natural to him. He quickly chose barefooting as his #1 passion.Nolan used his older brother Nevins' wetsuit which swallowed him. His parents saw his love for barefooting, so for Christmas he got his own wetsuit. It is now a little snug on him, but he is not ready to give it up because he has just about all the pros' autographs on it.
His first few tournaments UBC, Barefoot Shredder, and Monster Mash he skiied on the boom. Nolan placed 6th in his first tournament and placed 1st in the other two. Nolan skiied his first long line tournament at the 2001 Monster Mash. He skiied with 14 adults and one other child in his division. He placed 10th in wakes, and 11th in tricks.One of the things that is so unique about Nolan is his ability to know what he is doing wrong when he falls or makes a mistake. He has the passion and determination to keep trying until he gets it right. Our gang of barefooters from Crystal Ski Lakes in Beaumont, Texas, had Paul Stokes come for a barefoot clinic in June and also in September. Nolan took instructions very well from Paul. He worked for 2 days on his back deep and is getting very close to riding one down lake. Nolan has a lot of support from our versatile Blue Mile Ski Club. Our club consists of slalom skiers, kneeboarders, wakeboarders, and barefooters. While sitting around our little RV haven, during the September clinic, We were all talking about the weekend of barefooting (imagine that). When Nolan was quoted saying "You Know Dad This Is The Life". Nolan's love for barefooting can be heard through the comments that he makes. His feelings are right on for most of us, and this is why I would like to nominate Nolan for Barefooter of the Month.
