TED DEAHL,
from Angola, Indiana, has been selected as the The story of how Ted got started in barefooting begins not on the lake, but on the ball diamond. I was Ted's baseball coach three years ago when Ted, as a thirteen year old, was new to the league. Ted very quickly progressed at that level of play and soon became unquestionably the leagues most feared base-runner. Consequently, Ted often ended up on third base where I was the base coach. On one Saturday morning game, Ted, as usual, found his way to third base where we started a conversation about barefooting instead of paying attention to the game. He asked me if I would teach him how to barefoot and my reply was "the boat leaves the dock at 5:00 AM". Ted showed up on my dock at 5:00 AM sharp the very next morning and has seldom missed a barefoot session since. Not surprising to me, Ted got up on his bare feet on the very first attempt from the boom. By the end of that morning, Ted was footing from the five foot rope and going long-line the following weekend. In the three years Ted has been footing with us, he has become a solid, dedicated footer and mastered several start methods including the dock flyer where he now routinely wins the "Big Air" contest. He very eagerly joined us on January 1st 2000 when we had to break ice to launch the boat. Fellow footers Mike and Lynn Psurny and I have enjoyed sharing Ted's passion and dedication to the sport of barefooting. Hat's off to Ted's family, parents Jeff and Janet and brother Nate for their love and support of Ted as well. On top of what you've already read about Ted, he is also a gentleman. Ted is our nomination for Barefoot Central's Footer Of The Month. Dan Melton P.S. Ted is still excelling at baseball, but he does better when he sheds his cleats and replaces the bat with a barefoot handle!
