Hello,

Dear chuck

I would like to nominate Dick Mochak, of Western MA, as Footer of the Month. Dick has been waterskiing most of his life but only started barefooting at 47. Dick is now 58 and decided he wanted to learn to go backwards and did it! He skis with our friend Eric and I, we're in our early 30s (see pic -Dick is in blue drysuit) and we learned to go backwards last summer. Eric and I struggled a bit putting it all together. When Dick learned, he got it fairly quickly on the shoe skis (showed the kids how it's done) and in the transition to his bare feet he suffered an injury to his pelvis. Although he was forced to stop for a little while he was back out there going forward and later backward again before the summer ended! (I don't have any pics of him going backwards, only video)

Dick is a guy who loves to teach waterskiing, especially barefooting, and will take anyone who is willing to get up at the hour of the morning when the water is still flat!  He has a deep commitment to barefooting and believes teaching others is a great way to get them involved and keep our sport alive up here in New England. In addition, Dick is an inspiration to his 3 year old twin grandsons who can't wait to learn to ski with him next summer! Dick has given the gift of barefooting to so many and continues to challenge himself and that is why I think he deserves to be BFC footer of the month!

Thanks for taking the time to nominate Dick.  I wish my grandfather had been a footer when I was young.  It will make a great Show and Tell story for the kids when they go to school.  Not many kids can say the have a barefooting Grandpa.  Congratulations Dick, you are now eligible to become the 2007 Footer of the Year.  Keep up the good work.  You're an inspiration to us all.  And send us photos of those grandkids when you have them footing.
