MICHAEL TAYLOR, a 12 year old footer from Ballarat, Australia has was the March 2001 Footer of the Month. Here's why: Michael is the current Australian & Victorian Sub-Junior Boy's Champion. (under 13) and has just recently retained his Victorian state Title at Dimboola. He has only been skiing for just over twelve months and has increased his wake slalom score to 9.8 and has a pb in tricks to 1120 without a back to front or flip. He has been given approval to jump in competitions and at his first tournament, he failed to ski away from jumps in the 11 meter range. In a follow-up tournament, Michael went out a surpassed his previous 11 meter attempts by landing two jumps just under 12 metres in the first round and then launched out to 15.9 metres on his final jump. This is amazing seeing as though Michael learned the inverted style of jump on only his second attempt long line.
To those that don't know Michael, he was at the World titles at Fergus Falls. While he wasn't skiing, he was busy getting thrown in the pool by the likes of Brett Sands, Pete O'Neill, Brett New, Mamo, Kristian, Terry Gregory, Graham Ransom, Willie Farrell, Keith St. Onge, Jason Lee, and anyone else that could catch him and throw him into the pool...... With Michael being eligible for Junior World's for the next few years, I can see some serious training in the years ahead. Keep your eyes out for this little guy. He's sure to make a big impact on our sport if he keeps progressing at his current pace. Michael would like to thank all the people who have helped him over the last twelve months, especially Gavin and Brendan Wright from the Victorian Barefoot Club, along with Peter O'Neill, Brett Sands and everyone who has offered advice or coaching. Congratulations Michael, on being selected the March 2001 BarefootCentral.com Footer of the Month. You are now eligible to win the "Mack Daddy" of all prizes. Next January, you could be voted by your peers to be the 2001 Barefoot Central Footer of the Year.
