JEFF BOEHM,
a 30 year old from Three Lakes, Wisconsin was selected as the May
2001 Footer of the Month. Here's why:
Jeff grew up in Three Lakes,
Wisconsin (which is the home of a huge chain of 28 lakes). He began
waterskiing at the age of four, and learned to barefoot at the age of
thirteen. Jeff was member of, and ultimately the president of a
local ski team the (Aqua Devils) from the early 80's to the mid
90's.
Although Jeff had an early
start, it wasn't until the early 90's that his love for
barefooting took off. He began entering local figure eight barefoot
tournaments, and it wasn't until he saw an instructional barefoot tape
of Ron Scarpa that he realized all the things that could be done on
your bare feet. It was then that he decided to learn to how to backwards
barefoot. Once that goal was achieved, the hunger for more was
fueled, and each year additional goals were set and quickly achieved.
Last year was Jeff's first
year to participate in the Barefoot Nationals. He traveled to
Houston, Texas to compete in the Nationals and surprised everyone by placing
3rd overall in the very competitive Mens II division.
Over
the past several years it has been Jeff's desire to learn new
tricks that has kept him on the water. Jeff is always in search of
new ideas that will help him learn new tricks. Whether the ideas are
considered new or old, Jeff is always eager to try them all so he can determine
what is best for him.
He prides himself on
teaching others, and has easily taught over 100 people to barefoot. For the
past several years he has brought a new person to the Wisconsin State and
Midwest Regional Tournaments. Jeff has been the Wisconsin State Barefoot
Rep in the Wisconsin Waterski Federation for the past four years. Jeff is
continually promoting barefooting recreationally and through tournaments.
For the past three summers
Jeff has hosted a free Learn to Barefoot Clinic at a local marina during their
demo days, and has also offered a week long world class clinic in Three Lakes
for the same time period, with skiers such as Andy Sable, Brett Sands, and Paul
McDonald.
Jeff always says that he is
just a guy who loves to ski. He believes that barefooting has taught him
about goal setting and finding out about his true character. It takes a
lot of hard work, determination, and heart to get to Jeff's level. If
asked why he loves footing, Jeff will tell you that it's the rush of learning a
new trick for the first time that keeps him coming back for more. Look for
Jeff to be an odds on favorite to place 1st or 2nd and Nationals this year.
Congratulations Jeff, on being selected the May
2001 BarefootCentral.com
