CAROLYN LYDAY, of Acworth, Georgia, was selected as the November 2001 Footer of the Month.  Here's why:

Chuck ,

Carolyn is new to the sport of Barefooting after being introduced to it less than 2 1/2 months ago. After showing her a day of what some of us love and live for, she couldn't wait to rip off her ski's and take to the water. What impresses me most about her is her Self-will, Constant Drive and Shear Determination to learn and excel in one of the most demanding of all water sports.

Those of us, who foot, know both the joys and perils that come along with the sport. If you barefoot for any length of time, there's certainly no doubt that you'll eventually experience great success, as well as a good dose of the 'bad side', including injuries such as Stingers, Rotator Cuff Tears, Toe Catches and Scorpions.

Less than 2 months ago, after experiencing her very first, and hopefully last 'Major Scorpion", she couldn't wait to get back on the water and try again. She tried not once, not twice, but three more times before calling it a day and icing down her lower back. Then after visiting her Chiropractor a number of times, she was back at it again.

Where as most people I know who have ever felt a "Scorpion" sting (your heels hitting you in the back of your head when you face plant) would have thrown in towel, Carolyn stayed out there on the boom and insisted on trying again and again. Call it crazy, call it guts, call it shear determination to succeed at what you love to do; we've all been there before. The good news is that her hard work has paid off. She's getting up on the 5 foot handle, and has been pulled twice long-line. Her advancement is more than astonishing considering the water temp has dropped 30 degrees since August. She has already decided to purchase a dry-suit and foot through the winter.

With the need of more women in very grueling and demanding sport, it's in my opinion that Carolyn "froggy" Lyday is well on her way of becoming one of Georgian's next up'n coming female footers. And it's with this reasoning that I nominate, her as Barefoot Central's November "Footer Of The Month".
