CHAR PORTMAN
from Tampa, Florida was selected as the BarefootCentral.com

October 2004 Footer of the Month

Here's why:

I would like to Nominate Charlene (Char) Portman for the “Barefooter of the Month”. I would also like to thank her for her contributions to the sport of Barefoot water skiing. Char skies with Keith and I in Tampa on the Hillsborough River and made quite a few improvements with her skiing this year. Char earned a couple of PB’s which prompted her to go to her first Nationals.

The biggest reason that I think that Char deserves to be honored this month is because of the work that she put in this year at the Southern Regions 3-event Barefoot tournaments. Char was Chief Safety Director at every 3-event barefoot tournament in the South this season, and is one of only 3 in the south that made it to every tournament and Nationals.

I would also like to recognize Char for her services to the last 3 US Teams. Char was the Elite Team’s Massage Therapist in Australia, as well as for the Junior and Senior Team at the Worlds in Winter Haven last October. She was there to do what she could to guide Team USA to 3 Team Titles.

Char is never seen at an event without her massage table, a cooler full of water and snacks, and enough sunscreen to cover pretty much everyone that shows up. She is a Safety Director that cares about the athlete both on and off the water. That is why I think that Char should be recognized as footer of the Month.
